Red Onion Still Life

Red Onion – 6" x 8" – Oil on Canvas Panel – SOLD

This onion was left over from a meal I had prepared. I liked how it looked on the cutting board and thought it would be fun to paint. Before I had never noticed how cool, almost blue white red onions are. Red onions really are cool in color tone, except the outermost skin which is almost orange.

When my husband saw the painting he quoted Shrek “Onions have layers”

I love that movie.

Anna thanks for dropping by. I think the colors of the scene is what originally captured my interest.

That is what I love about art, how it encourages investigation of items with greater depth and sense of understanding.

Kellie thanks for mentioning the layers of the onion. I really worked on that part of the onion, as I did not want it looking like a technical rendering, instead I wanted to capture the gist of it.
