Peony Bud Daily Painting

Peony Bud – 6" x 6" (15.25 x 15.25 cm) – Oil on Gessoed Panel
SOLD

Peonies inspire me to slow down and to take the time to really understand them. I love the variation of colors on the petals, how the protective outer petals have a deep rose edge that slide into a rich green. The stems are somewhat fluted, this gives them strength while also staying very slender.

Beautiful painting! What colors did you mix to get that blue-green background color?

Thanks Anna :) The background sort of developed, it started out as a simple warm gray, then I did not like it, so I darkened it, then that was not quite right so I lightened it with a tint. So I am not really sure what colors the background is made up of, there is some ivory black, zinc buff, cobalt blue, aliz. crimson, and probably some winsor green, and maybe more because there are about three different layers of paint in the background, all mixed wet in wet so they blended.

sorry for the long response, but there is no direct answer :)
